Lady Legends

The number of organizations or causes that were founded or inspired by a woman or a group of women in Grand Rapids history, recent and long, is staggering.  Most of these institutions continue to operate today and have touched the lives of countless citizens through the years.  As a community, we are grateful for these women and their vision, leadership and incredible stamina.  Grand Rapids is progressive in many ways, and the story of Lady Legends is just one more example.  We will stroll by these noteworthy sights that originated with women.

Community Celebration: UICA Outside Creston Walking Tour @ Creston Brewery
Sep 19 @ 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm

UICA Outside expands the Urban Institute for Contemporary Art’s impact city-wide and connects visitors to the vibrant neighborhoods that surround downtown Grand Rapids during ArtPrize 10.  Featuring three public projects in three different neighborhoods, UICA Outside draws together diverse artists, property owners, and GRR stakeholders to create artworks that are exciting and accessible to all.  Each neighborhood features large-scale works created by artists who reside and engage within their respective community or who have designed artworks with neighborhood input.  These public works activate what were once quiet and overlooked areas into powerful reflections of our neighbors, and create welcoming corridors and gathering places.  Join Caroline Cook as she “walks and talks” with you while you explore the Creston neighborhood and large-scale murals at three separate locations.  Learn and burn!
